Summary of Candidate Professional/Civic Background:
Served three terms as a Port Arthur ISD Board Trustee as President, Vice President and Secretary. Graduate of Leadership TASB with the Distinction of Master Trustee, Member of the Council of Urban Board of Education (CUBE). Former Vice Chair Commissioner of the Port Arthur Housing Authority, and retired Transit Planner for the City of Port Arthur and the Federal Transit Administration.
Why would you be an effective leader in this role?
I bring a strong background in education, civic engagement, and public service, with direct experience supporting students, teachers, and school communities. My work has focused on curriculum development, instructional leadership, and advocating for high academic standards that serve all learners. I understand Texas public education from the classroom level to system-wide policy and value collaboration with educators, families, and community stakeholders. I am committed to transparency, evidence-based decision making, and respect for the constitutional role of the State Board of Education. My approach is grounded in listening, problem-solving, and putting students’ long-term success first. I maintain a clear focus on student learning and civic readiness. I am passionate for student success with a strong vision for the best outcome. I am motivated with data-driven and decision making skills, and I have a broad understanding of fiscal responsibility.
What are three platform points that are important to you?
My goals include ensuring equitable funding for all districts, increasing teacher pay and support, reducing testing overemphasis, expanding community-centered schools, and protecting public education from privatization efforts. I am committed to fostering a system that values diversity, promotes critical thinking and prepares all students for success in our diverse society.
